Test cricket is still alive!! - part2

Now Ricky Ponting laughed and cracked jokes with comrades while his counterpart coaxed from his team a performance of the utmost resilience. At daggers drawn for so many years these opponents forged a spirit that tolerated both fierce play and friendship. It was the spirit of true sport. Doubtless their experiences in the Indian Premier League forged an understanding. Perhaps it helped that the sting had been taken out of low catches by referring them to an independent adjudicator. But credit must also be given to leaders responsible for ensuring their charges represented their nations with honour and mutual respect. Ultimately it is down to the captains. No grizzles, no gripes. Australia was superb in victory, South African magnificent in defeat.

In the end justice was served as the stronger side prevailed in both the series and the final Test. Australia took control of the match on the opening day and never quite lost its grip. Winning the toss helped as did the arrival of fresh bowlers but the hosts also displayed unflagging gusto. In Michael Clarke the victors had the batsman of the summer whilst Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle advanced their reputations with whole-hearted showings. Faults can be found in an evolving Australian side but that is a topic for another day.

South Africa went down with every flag flying. Seldom has a loss so closely resembled a triumph. Throughout this campaign this team of many colours has demonstrated an ability to defy the odds. South Africa was supposed to lose heavily in Perth but won by six wickets. Things looked even worse in Melbourne till the tailenders went to work. Now the visitors seemed down for the count for a third time and rallied with such tenacity that the day was almost saved. Smith's side caught superbly in the slips, unleashed some old-fashioned pace with Dale Steyn and fielded some gifted and gritty young batsmen in Jean-Paul Duminy and A.B. de Villiers. They provided stirring competition and superb entertainment.

And so the summer of Test cricket ended on the highest note. After 15 days of intense and fluctuating cricket the South Africans took the spoils and deserve to be recognised as the strongest side around. But the Australians fought back with skill and application to take a valuable win. Roll on February 25 when these teams meet again on African soil.

Test cricket is still alive!!

AND they said Test cricket was dead! Roll over Allen Stanford and all the other unbelievers with a concentration span of 10 minutes. An exhilarating Test match ended in its last few moments in the most stunning circumstances as a battered but unbowed visiting captain was beaten by a scything delivery from an exhausted opponent.

After five days of intense and sporting struggle the match was settled with 10 balls to spare. The last hour was an almost unbearable tale of frustrations, overthrows, dropped catches, bowling changes, field changes, appeals, defiance, courage, endeavour and fine players reaching deep into themselves in search of that last drop of energy. At times the drama was tinged with farce. Supporters could hardly bring themselves to watch. It was a tense, thrilling denouement that transfixed two sporting nations. Never mind that the series had been decided. Far from going though the motions two proud teams exchanged cricketing blows until finally one was forced to yield.

It was an extraordinary finish. Storm clouds were gathering over a scarred ground. An increasingly alarmed Australian side was desperately trying to take the last two wickets and secure a much-needed victory. South African tailenders were hanging on for dear life.

Meanwhile all and sundry were watching the rooms wondering whether or not a wounded captain intended to bat. Rumours spread that he had been sighted in white clothes and then swinging a bat but, like the existence of the Loch Ness monster, they remained unconfirmed. Someone said that his plaster cast had been cut off and he was trying to put on his batting gloves. Not until the last instant did anyone outside the rooms realise that Graeme Smith meant to take his turn at the crease. And as he threaded his way through the throng and towards the field so the crowd stood to salute him. Hereafter no teammate will dare to let him down. Everyone rose to the occasion, not just the players. Nationalism was put aside as a brave warrior was given his due. Not that Makhaya Ntini was any less deserving as he too surpassed himself with 75 balls of caution interspersed with sudden shafts of aggression. No one expected him to last but he left the field with his wicket intact.

Throughout these dramas both teams were seen in the best possible light. Twelve months ago the SCG Test reached a similar conclusion but followed an altogether more acrimonious course. Afterwards the hosts were nonplussed to discover that some patriots were unable to share their joy.

CABS team thrashed !!!!!!

Today belonged to the WTF team!!!!

CABS team had nothing whatsoever to be happy about today's performance...

WTF team won the toss in the first match and without any surprise they chose to bat...and they went on to a flier straightaway...PRAVEEN ul-haq and DRAVID gave them a great start...DRAVID was magnificant with the bat while ul-haq played some heavily loaded strokes...with the help of some great strokes by REP and PATTU they got to the 40s in notime....
the CABS team fielding was very average...:(...the usually impeccable JONTY missed a handful of fielding opportunities and sadly ADMIN dropped a sitter...the only thing for the CABS team to cheer about was the HAT-TRICK by VASANTH LEE(Stumping followed by 2 bowled out dismissals)..good work LEE..
Chasing down 52 odd runs in 12 overs, CABS team jus couldn click...we lost quick wickets..there was nothing special with the CABS batting either...though WATSON and LEE tried to hold on to the edge, in vain..CABS team falling well short of the target...it was a great display of bowling and fielding by WTF team...SOURAV MALI and HARI WARNE bowled really well....
The next match, CABS team won the toss and decided to bat..once again CABS team just couldn get the start needed...only VIRU SEELAN and WATSON showed some resistance...but that too was short lived...LEE and VARUN SINGH played some good shorts down the order...JONTY played some good shorts to bring the score up to 38...This innings REP and WARNE chipped in with some good bowling..
CABS team took the ball with some hope to restrict the opposition within the target in the truncated 10 overs match...but it was not to be...the target seemed to be meagre for the WTF team..With some real hard hitting by ul-haq and some flashing drives by DRAVID the WTF team were closing in on the target so fast..within no time they finished off the match...once again it was only an average performance by CABS team with the ball and in the field...
The performances of the day...As far as the batting is concerned, there were a handful..DRAVID,ul-haq, REP, WATSON and PATTU were brilliant with the bat..The bowling hero of the day is undoubtedly is LEE for his brillian HAT TRICK and some quality bowling in the second match...As mentioned before nothing to speak about CABS team's fielding..In WTF team IRFAN RAJ was brilliant...The PERFORMER OF THE DAY is NATTU DRAVID for his efforts with the bat in both the matches and some scintillating effort in fielding...
Overall it was a disappoiniting day for CABS team...need to charge up guys!!!!hope we'll bounce back in the next edition!!!!!!!!!!!

CABS team records another victory!!!!!!!

Victory!Victory!Victory! The significance of saying it three times is the HAT-TRICK by CHIK!!!!!!!!!Yup..we witnessed the first ever hat-trick in the short history of CABS cricket, today..It was a great match in the hot sun!!!The HCG was free and we had to rush to grab the pitch....The CABS team won the toss and elected to bat...It was a bowling match, an instance that shows that we have graduated to the next level and that the class of our playing too has improved....Getting back to the match, we batted first and notched up 44 on the board...Our team mates' efforts to make a score card went in vain......:(RAKESH was a new entry and was in a jolly GOA mood...had his pants rolled on throughout!!!!!!!
There was a descent bowling effort from the WTF team...They removed ADMIN quickly who somehow managed to hit a four in the offside..If this is rare, then his dismissal very early in the innings is rarer...ya he got out when he miscued a straighter delivery giving the fielder a sitter.....SLOPPER too followed...It took some beautiful shots by JONTY and MS PATTU to bring up the score....VIRU tried to play the ball through square and he tried and tried and tried..he jus could not find his usual nick today...bad luck VIRU..... Today's debutant,CHIK SYMONDS had only one ball to face and fetched 4 runs to the team off the single delivery..As far as the WTF bowling is concerned, DRAVID bowled well in a consistent way and VARUN SINGH too was absolutely brilliant with his line and length.... WARNE produced a beauty of a delivery to shatter the wickets of SLOPPER......Also WARNE took a skyscrapper catch...good work WARNE....REP tried his hand in bowling and was effective too....
The WTF replied with iron hands...started off well with DRAVID and PRAV-UL-HAQ..but then lost a few wickets..Nevertheless, DRAVID was brilliant in his stroke making..he was anchored to the crease and HAQ hit some shots at Admin to boundaries...until we found our surprise package...CHIK came up with the over of the day...the first ever HAT TRICK in the bowling format of CABS cricket...He removed DRAVID..the much needed wicket. What followed was a batting collapse..Nothing worth mentioning in the rest of their batting, except that of REP who seemed to be determined to get WTF out of trouble, unfortunately, ran out of his crease for an excellent throw by WINS RICHARDS....a direct hit...CABS team won the match comfortably!!!!!!!!!
As far as the batting performances of the day go, i don have any special mentions..everyone contributed with the bat equally...The bowler of the day is undoubtedly our very own CHIK...great bowling CHIK...u just over shadowed WARNE's contribution with the ball today....PATTU produced some beauties with the ball and it was unfair on ADMIN's part to deny JONTY the ball...We ll make sure that JONTY gets to bowl a few overs the next time we play.....The fielding was terrific...Though there were a few misfieldings and a handful of drop catches, the fielding was great when we look at the big picture... Of course, WINS' catch at the deep and the great direct hit were stunning examples of great fielding..As mentioned before WARNE's skyscraper catch and his effort to grab another were examples of great fielding...good work WARNIE. SLOPPER missed out a sitter....that gives us the liberty to have his name unchanged..so folks, we officially declare that there would not be any further considerations to rechristen him.............
Overall, it was a great game of cricket guys...I suppose that today was the last edition of CABS cricket for this semester....so lets meet at the next edition of CABS cricket asap, whenever it is..........till then keep the fire flaring and the spirits alive.......Bye.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CHAK DIYA CABS team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Oops!..sorry....couldn't take the finger off the key in time...that is the amount of excitement....This day goes into the history of CABS cricket as one of the most remarkable days....
CABS cricket truly had a promotion today....Wat else do u want?We beat one of the formidable teams today..and that too in a bowling match!!!
Talents came pouring in..it was in the HCG and i don suppose that we have ever started playin so early...the weather was great and the conducive for a great day of cricket and the air was filled with enthu...we faced a manifold team...it had people from a variety of category...3rd year...4th year....ECE dept,Biomed, hostelite, dayscholar and what not...But the oppsition was dauntless. There was no separation today as CABS and WTF. It was CABS vs the opposition and the spirit was simply immeasurable.....
Jus as we expected we won the toss and no doubt we decided to bat...ADMIN and ul-haq opened the innings...and ADMIN got the team onto a flier...but unfortunately ul-haq ran out of his crease....but then came the highlight of the day...the best partnership till now...DRAVID joined ADMIN at the crease...and both were classy, with free flowing bat and there was no hurdle for the flow of runs..even the fastest bowler in the opponent team could not get the better of them. No stopping them!! ADMIN made some blistering shorts..though every one of them were on the leg-side,his strong area...DRAVID played some glorious shorts all through the ground..though his shorts through the square need special mention..the partnership heaped up runs, going steadily at 7.00 runs per over...jus when we foresaw a great total on the board, ADMIN misqued a delivery and threw away his wicket..he returned back to resting place for a standing ovation..DRAVID followed soon...receiving no less appreciation from the team mates...great partnership guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then the batting order started to wobble a little...REP failed today and surprising ly even VIRU could not thrive....WATSON and PATTU scored few, crucial runs...but the runs did not come as easily as before...but somehow because of the commitment of the people..we reached 86 runs in the stipulated 14 overs at a healthy run rate of 6.14....
Then the CABS team went on to field..full of confidence because of the score we had etched...Though the opposition had a strong batting line up, they were actually low in confidence seeing the spirit that we showed in the field...VARUN SINGH's bowling needs special appreciation....he bowled the first over of the innings with real good consistency throughout...the bowling was great..with VARUN SINGH and DRAVID(sounds strange isn't..dravid opening the BOWLING!!!, it happens only here) opening the bowling..both of them bowled at good length...and restricted the flow of runs for the other team...DRAVID removed the supposedly dangerous player of the opponents with help from VIRU who took a blinder in the deep...The bowlers did a great job and they were well supported by the fielders....the pick of the bowlers include WATSON who claimed 3 important wickets....therefore compensated for his batting....PATTU was great in whatever he did...he did some intelligent work behind the stumps to dismiss another important wicket of the opponents...though they had great players except one the others kept walking back...thanks to some great bowling from us...SLOPPER too had a good time with the ball ..Good work SLOPPER and though he did not miss out in the fielding we have decided not to take any further steps in rechristening him.....i don hav to speak about the fielding...it was the fielding that took us home today...be it REP or IRFAN or JONTY or WATSON or DRAVID..everyone was simply scintilating....something tells me that i have missed out someone..sorry if i hav missed someone...
Owing to the tight bowling and fielding the opponents needed an almost impossible 22 off 12 balls...and thanks DRAVID who made life much more tougher for them..guess what???a maiden in the penultimate over...needing 22 off 6 balls the opponents were under tremendous pressure...PATTU bowled the last over and the opponents were staggering literally...even the batsman who had proved to be a nightmare for the CABS team in the previous occasions was helpless....DRAVID dropped a sitter.. Though the batsman was run out...the opponents fell short by a mile...CABS TEAM grabs a remarkable victory!!!!!!!!!!
Now for the players of the day.....undoubtedly the batting heroes of the day were ADMIN and NATTU...The bowlers of the day, PATTU, WATSON and VARUN and DRAVID( just for that last but one ,over).. I jus couldn point out one bowler. There cannot be any second opinions about PATTU's keeping...Today, he justified me in naming him MAHENDRA SINGH PATTU in more than one way.....that run out was a great work pattu!!!
The next match had nothin important to say...it was between CABS team and the ECE team. Seeing the performance of the CABS team in the first match the opposition team ran for covers just after starting their bowling. Though here comes the cherry on the cake...HARI WARNE caught a real blinder...that goes down as one of the best catches...great work warnie.......
Altogether, today had everything...additionally we proved that we are capable of winning matches against strong teams and that too in the conventional bowling format....great work CABS team and great commitment members....too great was today's playing...keep up the spirit and lets continue this form and reach the next levels...see you soon in the next edition...till then keep the spirit going and accumulate the energy...so that we can unleash our strengths on the opponents....Asusual, am sorry if i have missed out any noteworhy incidents or important players...And ofcourse, your feedbacks are welcome...see you soon.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cricky under the march sun

Well, since the Cabs updater is quite busy with all the activities buzzing around@college, i take pride in posting my first ever post@CABS - the cricky blog of CSE-B .

Lets get down straight to today's match , Yeah its March1 today and Sun was at its brightest today scorching down at us while we were trying to get some cricket going in an almost empty college.
Here's today's attendance in cabs cricky,

Real Person Cabs Nicky
Yusuf - yousuf(admin)
Mukesh - Mukesh Jonty Singh
Manoj Seelan - Viru Seelan
Varun - Varun Singh
Vasanth - Vasanth Lee
Vignesh.R - RV ponting --->strange ????
Natarajan - Nattu dravid
Manivannan - Slopper mani --->soon to be changed ????
Winston - Win richards
Prasanna - pras clarke
Hari - Hari warne

well, quite low right ?? yeah, thats how many stand up to play on a sunny day ..
Today was not the usual sort of like CABS and WTF meeting head on ,, rather some players of cabs and wtf got interchanged to weigh up together i suppose .. and yeah, their field power got raised cos jonty singh was taken by clarke :(
also, nattu dravid was literally limping with his small bruise on his leg that he dragged while playing for the major match the previous day,so he was put a common man - he kept the wicket and held bat for both teams, that is what a common does acc to us. Viru went the other side instead we got warne to raise our weight in bowling dept .

Venue - HCG
T
ossssssssss, the coin made sound as i put it up in the air, HEADS pras called and guess wat, TAILS it was and we got to bat.

Me and slopper started out and played a mix of loose and great shots ;) and very soon i gave away my wicket and the rest played their game and we totalled upto a not so impressive 36 in 10 overs.

They started well i must say , we ran ran and ran behind the ball and i added a cramp on my leg which still pains.
they had to get 9 from 18 balls i think , i got the ball and snap took the first wicket of their innings (8 overs for first wicket!!!) and then it seemed that we still had some chance to wrap it up(did we really??). Slopper bowled the 9th over and they had 3 to get from 6 balls i acc to my brain.warne bowled the 1st ball of the last over and bang jonty hit it at mid-off and slopper in his usual sloppy manner missed the ball
(i decided that we're not changing his nick for some weeks here on)
they ran 3 runs for it and yeah yeah - They won with 5balls to spare.
Rest for everybody now and they had enough scorch balls from the bright Sun than the cricket ball, atleast half a litre d'eau each had. [ d'eau - of water ]
varun singh left the venue to home at this juncture and so dravid joined the other team..bad for us..

Next match , Tossss(yeah it tossed only a lil) was by pras as lee called and lost it, i asked for a re-toss as it din't toss as i expected..and so did pras , i called HEADS and yeah u know , it was TAIL :( [ damn i thought , why doesn't this coin show up a HEAD]

Anyways , geared evryone to face the Sun much than the shots of the other team.
They started impressive and made up a total of 32-A.O in 9 overs.
bowling dept wasn't impressive except me taking 2wickts in my 2nd ovr and warne, lee were tight in their spells, fielding was a thumbs down as i missed a easy one and slopper as usual.u know...
Me and slopper started and couldn't hit a big shot in any case, even loose balls we missed.
yeah u know the term - exhausted.Evryone came and got out at the other end and i was standing here hopeless abt the match. Finally it was win richards' grip at the bat and we decided to put mokkai.
[mokkai (in cricket)[n] - to stand at the grease without giving away your wicket and neither trying to score runs]
Then it was finally over as i got over trying to break free by hitting and the ball ended in viru's hands. We lost this one too..

Today's CABS performance awards goes to

Batting - Viru, Jonty , dravid
bowling - Lee, dravid(2nd match) , viru (great slow ones),warne
fielding - jonty, clarke, viru(excellent catches although he dropped an easy one)

Ok guys, see ya in the next edition of CABS cricky [hope the sun doesn't drain away our cricky spirits]

CABS team does it again........!!!!

Today was all about placements..With half the class working on placements in the Audi..The other enthusiastic group was working on placements not so far...though the placements had different meanings all together...
This full day belonged to CABS cricket and the cricket belonged to CABS...Three matches were played and CABS won 2-0, the third match was a tie...This, to the best of my knowledge is the first tie in CABS history..Wat an entertaining day of cricket we had...!
Let me jump straight into today's action. I hope it was destined to be CABS' day..because in all the three games played it was the CABS team that won the toss...The first match SLOPPER* and and ADMIN gave a good start followed by some pretty useful contribution by WATSON,VIRU and others..WATSON though was consistent throughout...CABS team amassed 52 in 12 overs..thanks to the performances of the batsmen..The WTF team though were just as usually brilliant in the field..SOURAV mali bowled really well...opening the bowling for them...Eveyone did their work to perfection and they had a debutant in their team, though he was from another dept...
The WTF reply was stupendous, NATTU DRAVID and the debutant playing some great strokes...MS PATTU was simply lightning in his strokemaking whereas DRAVID's innings was just a delight to watch...They played really well and brought the match to a nail bitting finish..with them requiring just 3 runs to win off the last ball...It was VIRU who bowled the last over...and he along with WATSON can claim full credit for the victory..because it was off the bowling of VIRU that WATSON took an excellent catch to dismiss DRAVID in the third ball of the last over..this according to me is the turning point of the match...However In the last ball of the match VIRU conceded just one run..the CABS team had won the match just by 1 run..ADMIN and JONTY missed the fielding because of known reasons..but it was an excellent match...
In the post lunch session 2 matches were played...in the first of which CABS posted a massive 60 on the board and the WTF once again played well to fight back, but fell short...It was a convincing win for the CABS team...PRAVEEN-ul-haq stumbled and hurt himself in the legs and because of which he had to miss the last match..but even though he was injured he opted to bat for his team which needed him badly...That was very spiritful playing by PRAVEEN...Nothin else was special as far as this game was concerned. It seemed to be a repeat telecast of the first game..except that it missed the THALA(hey!!don't laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!)..im not kiddin...for all of u who do not know..thala played cricket today..but he was stubborn not to HANDLE THE BALL(even during fielding..ha..ha..ha)....
Ok..now for the match of the day..in the third and final match of the day also., team, won the toss..and batted well...everyone jus chipped in with the bat and again CABS team got on to 51 off 12 overs. With mEEEani playin an important role with the bat.. In WTF reply...REP and debutant played a steady knock..once REP was dismissed, DRAVID superbly and was followed by some hard hitting by PATTU...They seemed to be in a comfortable position of winning the match...requiring just 6 runs from 3 overs..but it was VIRU who once again played the Guardian Angel in the 10 over...But for his tactical bowling and the heroics of mEEEani..the match would have been easily won by the WTF...he took two mind-blowing catches to dismiss the top batsmen, the debutant and PATTU..IRFAN RAJ was in the nonstriker's end while wickets fell at the other end....But thanks to SOURAV who was not helpful with the bat as he was with the ball..he tried, tried and tried to somehow hit the ball with the bat..but failed miserably..with the match ending in a freak tie...something to remember for a long time....
As far as the performances go..hav lots to say..Batsmen were superb..DRAVID was effortless in his stroke making...PATTU was hard hitting..ADMIN was classfull....SLOPPER* was skill ful and WATSON played some blistering strokes in all the three matches...REP and JONTY also had good time with the bat.....BOWLING was great with the hard ball and the good condition of the HCG pitch..SOURAV spearheaded the attack for WTF and to good effect...VIRU was the pick of the bowlers....though JONTY, WATSON,McOFFICER,REP,PATTU all made the ball to move and had the other team players staggering...
Today was equally good for the fielders ..JONTY was just brilliant as usual...DRAVID took an almost impossible catch...WATSON took a few good, tough catches and PRABAKHAR too was good in the field. Considering the number of matches he has played in this pitch, he was great in the fielding..though a popular opinion among his team mates is that he would be better in the field if he puts his mobile aside....SLOPPER* too took a good catch let alone PATTU who has a few to his credit though he dropped a sitter...FLAMBOYANT and SHERYL made their debut today..and I welcome them to join us and groom their talents consistently..
Now comes the most critical time for me..Identifying the player of the day...Today had a variety of performances and some great cricket...So I have no other go but to select 3 players as players of the day...One, the debutant harish who seemed to be planted to the crease...Two, NATTU DRAVID for his consistent performance with the bat through out the day...Great batting DRAVID.... and finally, WATSON for his all- round performance...he played well with the bat..took crucial wickets and some jaw-dropping catches...Congrats players of the day ..sorry if anyone has any second opinions..because it is just my own decision...also my regrets if i had missed out any noteworthy performances..
Finally, we all once again proved our sportmanship..we played some glamorous cricket and cricket was at its best, and CABS cricket has started to win hearts among other dept. players too...great work ppl....Finally, I hope ul-haq will fit to play Thursday's match...let's meet on Thursday for the next edition of CABS cricket,hopefull....................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would be glad to receive feed backs................bye................
*we are seriously considering to re-christen SLOPPER, name suggestions are welcome....

CABS team thrashed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today saw some class cricket from the supporters of CABS cricket..Though there was a delay in the start because of our seniors, we overcame the hurdles to begin play..Only one game was played today..but it lacked nothing..The players were equally distributed..No important players except LEE,RICHARDS and VARUN SINGH missed the game..Today's new face was VISU HAYDEN,so gigantic and intimidating to the bowler, though he was not up to the mark with the bat today...
The CABS team won the toss and decided to bat first in the 8 over encounter...The batting was great as usual with ADMIN and SLOPPER opening the innings...both were great and steady and just when CABS team seemed to be in complete control of the match they(admin and slopper) lost track of the match and got out...Then came today's most stylish batting...SRI WATSON seemed to be in complete control of the bat and played some gloriours strokes square of the wicket..his attempt to reverse sweep the ball needs special mention, though it went straight to the fielder MS PATTU who dropped the catch offered..With some useful contributions from the other players like VIRU, CABS team raised up to 34 at the end of 8 overs...
Then the came the WTF reply...NATTU DRAVID was so clean in his hitting and was just as dangerous as usual...when he was out MS PATTU came in and slammed the ball for a boundary..but he too went back soon...REP who played a responsible innings took their team to a comfortable position. Though the CABS team tried to restrict the run flow, the WTF had the match under their control throughout....McOFFICER failed with the bat though was good in the field...
The highlight of the match was the last over..The previous over went for 4 runs and was bowled by VIRU...Admin was irritated that 4 runs were given in the penultimate over..Then Admin decided to bowl the last over with the WTF team needing 10 runs...It seemed to be an easy victory for the CABS team..But it wasn't so..The WTF team found their hero in PRAVEEN-il-haq...who hit the first ball to the fence...and Admin trying to intimidate the batsman deserved some more..PRAVEEN hit the next ball too for a boundary...The chances of a CABS team victory seemed to have vanished into thin air...HARI WARNE was on strike and the WTF team needed 1 from 2 balls...WARNE finished off the match in style with a straight drive despatching the ball to the boundary, the last over alone giving away 12 runs...Admin who knew to preach didn't know to practise...what a pity..!!!!!!!!!!
Now coming to the individual performances today...As far as the batting is considered DRAVID,SLOPPER ,REP and ADMIN blazed away some strokes as usual...But the real batting heroes of the day are Ul-haq and WATSON...Both were superb to watch...Though JONTY didn't get a bat, he was great with the ball...RV PONTING was good in the fielding though he did not get a bat...WARNE tried out some pace bowling and he was very economical...he seems to be getting better by the day...VIRU and IRFAN RAJ bowled real good spells..and IRFAN took two wickets in consectutive deliveries...
Fielding was great..JONTY is still throwing onto the stumps..and VIRU and IRFAN are fighting for the second place...I find a 'SPECTAC'ular change in SLOPPER(he has got a new pair of spectacles...lollz)..in his fielding ..he seems to be in control of the ball..though i have to consider other's opinions in order to re-christen him...
"Aren't the balls in which the batsman gets stumped, correct balls??"Ul-haq asked this question when i was stumped off a wide delivery from WARNE..Hats off Ul-haq...we expect many more such intelligent thinking from u....lollz....
From today I have decided to name one of us a the player of the day and it is purely my own opinion...i regret if any of you are not with me..As far as today's game goes my PLAYER OF THE DAY is PRAVEEN-ul-haq....for winning a match that was virtually lost...
Hope CABS team comes back strong in the next edition..........see you all.........ur feedbacks are welcomed.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HIT WICKET.........................

CABS cricket was back with a bang today.. Admin played today..and seemed that the previous post had its effects on him ...thank god he stayed back instead of going home to prepare for friday's UT..He seemed to have played a significant part in today's play..Speaking about leaving instead of playing..am sorry all of you..i did not participate in today's edition of CABS cricket. Sorry all...
Now coming to today's play..dont wonder how im writing all this..jus by what i heard..our admin gave me an SMS update of the highlights of today's play..so kindly adjust if i err...
The important thing about today's match is our admin's form. He seemed to have proceeded from where he left last time....he had played a good innings today....there were a total of 2 matches played today..and CABS team won 2-0..no probs..wtf team can always bounce back..i hope the next edition of CABS cricket would be theirs...
As far as i know today's highlight is the Hit wicket of HARI WARNE...wat a freak way to be out..but thanks WARNE for adding some international flavour to the game and for spicing up the game..this shows that CABS has a standard equivalent to that of Internationl cricket......also it doesnt matter cos it was in the seventh over..with just 3 more overs to go...but i hope that WARNE made up for this with his ball
In the first match CABS team played first and made 44 at a pretty good run rate of 4.4 in 10 overs...in reply the WTF team played well and the match went on to the last ball..just think of the excitement...with 9 required from 6 balls..it was McOFFICER who flared up the game..he hit a four in that crucial last over..but finally CABS team won the match by 2 runs..such a close call...Such an action packed game..
But the second match belonged to CABS team..the WTF who played first were bowled out for 33 and in reply CABS team played sensible cricket...the opening pair played well to take the team to a comfortable victory..the opening stand of 36 runs between Admin and SLOPPER i suppose, is the highest first wicket partnership as of now..
Now coming to the performances of the day...everyone of them were at their best.Admin played well and SLOPPER slopped and played well with the bat too..RAOMAMA was asusual watching and picking up balls...KAMAL AFRIDI was as usual blasting..Admin had hit his nose with the ball trying to act smart while catchin the ball..hav said so many times not to put scene..this proves "ஓவர் சீன் ஒடம்புக்கு அவது"(for all those who cannot read tamil it reads "Over scene odambukku avaadhu"..:) WIN RICHARDS seemed to be in good form with the ball..VIRU had taken 2 excellent catches and had attempted for a third excellent one...IRFAN RAJ fielded well though did'nt get a bat..NATTU DRAVID was in his usual nick though reports say that he got out early in the second match which eventually led to the downfall of the team...today's surprise was ROOP GIBBS who had played some mind blowing strokes on both sides of the pitch...Also SOURAV MALI was just as usual suthifying....PRAVEEN-ul-haq had played some great strokes in the first match...
I hope others had just played their roles well. I hope JONTY,REP,WARNE,VARUN SINGH,LEE,RV PONTING,MS PATTU and the others played their parts to perfection...hope that i could be a part of the next editi0n of CABS cricket. till then bye.............................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CABS Cricket at its best..........

"Cricket was boring without ADMIN illa...???" This was the silly question of our admin. His humour sense is very clear from this...He has been thinking that CABS cricket is all about him.. We just proved that wrong..Infact today we played a different kind cricket..I would call it Intra-Cabs cricket. Thanks to admin for helping us discover this brand new form of Cabs cricket..Yes today all of the players were Cabs players..Of course with the absence of Admin, everything went on well..lollz.......

Today the highlight was the pitch..this is the farthest pitch from the HCG(Hostel Cricket Ground)..I would name this pitch ECG(Entrance Cricket Ground). The ball was hard and the conditions were fabulous, except for the extra hot sun. With 9 people of the Cabs team we started playin. I played comman player for the first 2 matches..The matches lacked nothing with VASANTH LEE leading the team which comprised of JONTY SINGH,VARUN SINGH and WIN RICHARDS and the other team with SLOPPER,VIRU SEELAN,McOFFICER and RV PONTING..ofcourse i played common...

In the first two matches SLOPPER's team made a clean sweep..though SLOPPER maintained his excellent form in fielding( let not the sarcasm go unnoticed). LEE's team won the third and last match. VIRU was as usual skillful, JONTY was excellent and today for a change WIN RICHARDS,who was terrific behind the stumps and eventually missed out the third match due to injury, also was determined to throw only at the stumps, ofcourse JONTY needs no mention in this context. RV PONTING was calm and composed as usual and played his part to perfection, not to leave behind his good work behind the stumps. McOFFICER proved his batting talents yet again today as he blasted off the deliveries to the fence. LEE was lethal today too. SLOPPER slopped again, and again, and again but he made up with his bat. VARUN SINGH played really well with the bat though was a bit expensive with the ball.
On the whole, today was just very exciting. Though some regular players like REP and WARNE were missing, today's episode of Cabs cricket seemed just as usual. Afterall excitement lies within the players and not in the number of players...Had a terrific time. No second opinions about that..so the people who missed the match today actually missed excitement and we never missed anyone today(Especially Admin..ha..ha..ha...)...........see you all in action soon........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CABS CRICKEY............

Up,Up,Up and all the way.....the ball went straight over the fielder's head for the maximum...Admin(Yousuf) played the innings of his college life so far today...he took the CABS team to a comfortable victory over the opposing team( i leave it to you to name them).
The CABS cricket today played in the original pitch..which was free after a long time..and in an unusual time slot...the spirit of playing the game was on peak today after everyone in the CABS cricket team bunked 2 hours of one of the important subjects taught by one of the most useless faculty...(no hard feelings)
Now we'll come to the highlights of the match...Ofcourse the innings of the day belongs to none other than our Admin(Yousuf). Apart from that our classic opener NATTU DRAVID, played some delightful strokes for his team until he made an error in the judgement of a ball by admin, and was eventually caught by the wicket keeper..there were some useful contributions from his team, including our CAPTAIN(REP), PATTU, IRFAN RAJ,to name some..HARI WARNE needs mention for scoring one of the many 6's of the match after playing 7 balls...he cleared the boundary with his trademark shot....
Today, we had some new faces too..including RV PONTING and SRI WATSON. With some good stroke play by IRFAN RAJ and WATSON, their team went on to score 47 runs, all out..
Then came the CABS team to bat, requiring 48 from 12 overs at a rate of exactly 4.00 per over, the cabs team went on to a flier...with some anonymous guy who made his debut today smashed some glorious shots to clear the boundary...
Then after his fall came Admin. Soon after the departure of SLOPPER(MANI), i joined Admin at the crease...and simply watched him play at the other end..the partnership seemed to take the team to victioy...and once Admin and I were out of consecutive deliveries, we had found a new bowling hero in McOFFICER..who is usually brilliant with his batting...then VIRU SEELAN flopped which is a rarity...and VASANTH LEE finished off the match..in style...Everyone else played their natural game..including MUKESH JONTY SINGH,who was in a fix to throw only on to the stumps, VARUN SINGH, PRAVEEN-ul-Haq and every other name i left(sorry others)..we all had another excellent outing...with the ball hard and bounce in the pitch..though batting was not easy..wicket keeping seemed to be more difficult..but the game had everything worthy of it to mention over here....we hope this support and dedication from the players continues in the days to come....
See you all in our next match................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CABS Cricket.....

The CABS cricket seems to have reached a different level... With 4 days of play in the last week alone(4 out of 5 working days)...there is a definite leap in the standard of the game...with rivals teaming up to occupy the Original pitch..the new pitch, cabs team discovered a less explored area of the campus and has now become its sole property...no one else to disturb the cabs team...lollz..

Nowadays, every match is high-scoring...the trend is different...there were times when neither could go past 40 runs in 10 overs..But now every innings sums up to above 60 in 10 overs..The match of the week is the one which drew with each team scoring 62 runs in 10 overs.. another remarkable improvement in CABS cricket is the brand new LIMITED OVERS TEST MATCH....the first episode of the match was played on Friday...and it proved to be action-packed...with the chasing team needing 4 runs from 2 balls it was the skillful VIRU SEELAN who hit the winning shot through the off side with a stunning shot from a good delivery from VASANTH LEE..another highlight of the week was one of the innings by none other than YOUSUF ...that was one of his best and that was a very brave knock....another match worth
mentioning here is the one in which our CAPTAIN(REP) hit 6's in 3 consecutive balls....

Other important batsmen of the week worth mentioning are HARI WARNE an MAHENDRA SINGH PATTU....for their knocks in several matches...and ofcourse our very own MUKESH JONTY SINGH is still awesome in the field and in his accurate throws....
The others name which are not mentioned here need not worry....its virtually impossible to mention everyones name here...thanks everyone for your dedication, hard work and sportmanship and above all for your determination to play by bunking classes..lollz...we hope to take CABS cricket to a different dimension in the days to come...thanks for your cooperation...

India triumphs...

After the dramatic conclusion of the Sydney test, the cricketing arena has heated up. With Symonds' complaining against Harbhajan of racially abusing him, all that has followed has been sheer action. There was a hearing atleast for the name sake. Harbhajan was represented by Captain Kumble and Sachin, who was present at the field with him, when he was complianed to hav e abused the gorilla(correction, symonds).
The hearing was officiated by the match referee Mike Procter, and without any audio or video evidence and even the umpires finding their way out of the controversy(by saying "we heard no damn thing") the referee acting on the testimonies of Mathew Hayden and the clear best actor of 2008 Michael Clarke..the referee banned Bhajji for 3 test matches. The credit goes to BCCI for putting its foot down and protesting against the ICC. The result the ICC has temporarily give a go- ahead signal to bhajji, stating that he could play until charges against him are confirmed by a higher probe appointed by the ICC. Also the controversial umpire Steve Buckner has been dropped by the ICC from umpiring the rest of the matches of the series. All this could not just get India its lost prestige and morale. The one thing that India can do is try to speak with the Bat and the ball.
The verdict however gives India something to cheer about. Nevertheless, it was Steve Buckner who was "THE MAN OF THE MATCH" at Sydney. Hats off BUCKNER & CO.........

Stupendous Sachin.......

Stylish, classy, extra-oooordinary,scintillating,marvellous and so on. The master blaster deserves everything. Ever since his arrival, Indian cricket has seen a new revolution. With his breathtaking strokes, Sachin has stolen the hearts of many cricket fans across the globe.. Be it the longer version of the game of the LOI's, Sachin has made his mark. He is now the leading century scorer in both forms of the game. He has broken almost every record set in cricket.
"Records are created to be broken". But Tendulkar's records would hold for a very long time. This natural left hander's Right handed willow casts the magic. It makes the top bowler's to be on their heels. Be it the fastest bowler of the trickiest spinner, eveyone fears for this 5 foot volcano. With criticism mounting against his stamina, Sachin has struck his best ever form. His consistency record in 2007 is mind-blowing. Except those century misses by a meagre margin, he has proved that he is just the same old LITTLE MASTER of the 90's. With rumours about his retirement mounting, Sachin has brushed aside such predictions. Though he cannot be expected to play for India in the next WORLD CUP, he still has a good two years' cricket left in him.
We'll have to wait and watch if he is able to reach that prestigious 50th Century in ODI's. Lets hope he does....

BANGalore.....

The result of the third and final test in the Indo-Pak test series is almost evident. Just like in Kolkata, the Indian Batting line flourished on the first 2 days of the Bangalore test, and again just like in kolkata,it seems that Kamran Akmal and Misbah have come to pakistan's rescue, yet again. The duo which shattered the hopes of the Indians' victory at Kolkata, seems to be determined to cast the magic once again. With Pakistan needing only 58 runs to avoid follow-on,draw seems to be the likely result.
Pakistan was 369 for 5 at stumps on day 2. The highlight of India's bowling is the amount of extras which is 70, just two short of a world record. With Misbah(54) and Akmal(32) batting strongly, the chances of victory for the world number 2 team, seems remote. A lot now depends on Bhaji andKumble to spin the ball India's way, so that India could clinch the series 2-0.
